Google unveiled its Penguin update in late April of this year, followed by several additions in the months that followed. Many SEO specialists, SEO spammers and website owners were soon either worried about its possible effects on their efforts or already slammed by the changes Penguin caused. The bottom line is that Penguin was not viewed too kindly in many circles. So, briefly, what exactly did Penguin do?

SEO Practices Attacked by Penguin

The Penguin algorithm change was designed to reinforce Google’s standing (and quite old) rules in favor of ethical SEO that promotes the kind of quality content people want to view and share with others. It enforced these quality rules by punishing certain unnatural optimization habits on two broad fronts: Link building SEO and content based optimization.

In terms of going after unnatural link optimization, Penguin attacked websites that had created artificial inbound links by either buying, exchanging or freely getting links from non-niche specific general interest web pages, low quality content farms or potentially harmful sites like warez pages, spam pages and porn domains. It also punished site owners who tried to create links whose anchor text was identical to the keywords they had in their domain name or the exact keywords they were trying to rank for in their own pages.

Penguins content SEO punishments were directed at websites whose content was stuffed with keywords and mainly designed to impress search spiders instead of informing human readers. Sites with overly high keyword density and websites whose main purpose was outright keyword stuffing instead of actually informing readers were those most heavily affected. In essence, websites that put more emphasis on optimization than on delivering quality to readers were the intended targets of Google’s Penguin.

Penguin’s Impact on Search

Penguin made an effort to clean up search results so that genuinely good and well recommended content filters to the top of the index. By punishing sites that focused more on over-optimization than on delivering genuinely valuable information, Google gave a competitive leg-up to web pages that had built their link SEO through backlinks from third party websites in relevant niches that wanted to honestly share the content by linking to it. The algorithm change also helped out websites that had created content whose keyword structure was just a natural extension of informative content; instead of pages that used content as an excuse to push reams of keywords at the search bots and irritate their human readers with word and phrase repetition.

The web after Penguin is certainly far from being as clean as it could be, but the algorithm did make a good effort to ensure that when someone searches for “how to make widgets” in Google, what they get is something that actually tells them how, instead of a page that’s trying to sell them widget making accessories and affiliate links to widget sellers

Impact on Websites that Use Honest SEO Practices

Following Google’s release of Penguin, SEO should become at least marginally easier for site owners that are trying to compete against black hat optimization with their own honest interest building methods. For example, a person whose niche is beekeeping can now more easily rank highly for keywords related to beekeeping because they are delivering quality information and causing others to share it honestly through natural backlinks from their own websites in related niches like honey making or outdoor hobbies.

This general trend improves SEO by making it simpler and more reliable while at the same time more happily connecting information hungry readers with the kind of content that will genuinely inform or help them.

Placing a blog on your real estate website is a wonderful way to drive traffic to your site. However, in order to get the most out of your blog, you need to write several SEO focused blog posts to take advantage of the increased amount of traffic a search engine can provide. Using the tips below, you will be able to write an SEO optimized post for your real estate blog that will help you secure more search engine traffic for your website.

License: Creative Commons Photo taken from Flickr with CC license. Author: Chris Olin

The first step you need to take when looking to write an SEO post for your real estate blog is keyword research. Using a tool such as the Google Adwords Keyword Tool will help you discover which terms people are searching for online when they are looking for real estate blogs. By knowing which terms people are searching for, you will be able to determine what type of language you should include within your posts so that your blog is served up in the search engine results.

Also, keyword research will help you find keywords that do not have a lot of competition that are specific to your local real estate market. When you are able to target keywords that do not have a lot of competition from other real estate blogs, it will be much easier for your website to appear on the first page of the search results.

Make Good Use of your Title and Description

The title and description you use for each blog post on you real estate blog can have a dramatic impact on the success of your blog. Whatever you use for the title and meta description of your blog post will appear in the search results. If you do not use a compelling title or description, you may find it difficult to attract visitors to your blog. A well written title and description will pique the interest of an Internet user and cause them to click on your URL in the search results and visit your blog.

Also, ensuring that your keywords are including in your post’s title and description will make it easier for the search engines to know where to rank your website for specific keywords. Search engines place more emphasis on the keywords that are contained within a blog post’s title and description, which is why you want to make sure your target keywords are included in yours. This will help you secure a higher ranking in the search results than if you did not include your target keywords in the title or description of a post.

Optimize Content for People

Ultimately, your blog needs to appeal to your visitors and provide them with something of value. When someone reading your blog for the first time feels they have read an interesting post, they will be more likely to share it with their friends and family via their social media accounts.

Search engines are starting to place more emphasis on social indicators such as re-tweets and Facebook “likes” when determining whether not to place a website on the first page of the search results. By creating excellent content geared towards your target audience, you can increase the likelihood of your visitors sharing your blog and content via their social media accounts which in turn will help boost your real estate blog in the search results.

Having a blog on your real estate website is a great way to drive targeted traffic to your website, especially if your posts are SEO optimized. Performing keyword research before you begin writing a blog post, making good use of your post’s title and description and creating high quality content for your target audience will help you achieve positive SEO results with your real estate blog.

Since its inception in 2003, WordPress has grown, to become the most popular Content Management System (CMS) on the internet. With over 100 million users worldwide, it is also the largest. Whether you want to create a personal site, blog, or sell your products and services using an e-commerce site, WordPress is among the most efficient systems that you should consider. This article highlights the three main reasons why WordPress so popular.

Free Usage

One of the major reasons why WordPress is so popular is because it is free. You do not have to dig deep into your pocket or hire an expensive webmaster, to have a compelling website. All you have to do is to download a copy of the latest version of WordPress, extract all files, and upload them in your web hosting account. Many hosting companies also offers one click installation of WordPress.

The fact that WordPress is free does not mean that you sacrifice on quality. The system is flexible and can help you create a professional looking site in under 5 minutes. With WordPress, you have access to thousands of free plugins and themes that you can use to customize your site. You only have to log into your administrative panel in you web hosting account, to use these and many other freebies.

Finally, the fact that WordPress is open source is a big plus. You can download its source code, open it in your favorite editor, and customize it, as you like. If you know a programming language, you can easily change its simple blog structure, to create a highly compelling and functional website. With WordPress, you get an excellent site and customer service, without burning a hole in your pocket.

Ease of Use

WordPress is easy to use. You can easily create and maintain a professional looking website with just a few clicks, of the mouse button. After you have bought a good domain name and web-hosting plan for your website, you can simply install WordPress from within your administrative panel. You do not have to learn programming languages, such as HTML or CSS, to install it. Its dashboard also has well-organized editing and online posting menus that you can use to add content, maintain, and upgrade your website. This is why WordPress is so popular among amateur and professional web enthusiasts.

SEO Optimized

To enhance your web presence and sell your products and services, to the online community, people must visit your website(s). Another major reason why WordPress is so popular is SEO optimization. Major search engines such as Google love WordPress sites. This is because of many reasons. First, its clean-coded structure is search friendly. Its permalinks and self-updating nature also pleases search engines and fast tracks indexing. As such, you website will rank higher in search results, attract a lot of organic traffic, and thus, boost profitability of your establishment.

Although many CMS’s are readily available on the internet, WordPress is an excellent platform that all webmasters should use. It is free, easy to use, and best of all, SEO optimized. Because its global community continues to improve and expand its capacity, WordPress will remain the most functional and popular CMS platform on the web.
